Location

Locale

In terms of location, Edgemont truly represents the best of both worlds. The village is a mere 20 minute drive from the heart of Downtown Vancouver, during which you’ll cross the scenic Lions Gate Bridge. While this commute makes for easy access to the city, it also provides a buffer for the commotion that comes with it. The real draws of Edgemont are its close proximity to the Capilano Suspension Bridge and the majesty of Grouse Mountain. Edgemont has it all when it comes to outdoors activities as the surrounding nature provides for a slew of walking, running, and cycling routes. Even better, just a 5 minute walk from the center of Edgemont is Murdo Fraser Park which hosts tennis courts, playgrounds, a golf course, and of course plenty of gorgeous greenery. Edgemont offers endless ways to connect with all that the natural environment of Vancouver has to offer while remaining conveniently close to its urban center.

Out and About the Town

The center of Edgemont is wonderfully contemporary, rife with trees, and populated by a plethora of small shops, restaurants, and cafes. Edgemont prides itself on its high number of independently owned businesses which provide all of the necessary amenities and services needed to go about daily life, but avoid the gratuity of large chains. Find fine wines and spirits, gourmet food shoppes, and highly praised eateries all within a few blocks. Plus, you’ll encounter eccentric gift shops and darling cafes which reflect the areas unique character. For example, Giftworks carries a large collection of works done by local B.C. artists and stores like Glynda’s Cards and Cool things give the village center a whimsical touch. Finally, the town is also home to the North Vancouver Capilano Public Library, offering a haven for students, book worms, and workers-from-home alike. Whatever you hope to find, Edgemont is sure to have it and will deliver it with a little touch of the personality that makes this mountain town so special.

Growing Industry and Self-Sufficiency

While Edgemont is undoubtedly a wonderful place to live, it is just as enticing a location for visitors. As mentioned above, the town is in close proximity to many hot spots for those touring the North Vancouver area. It is the perfect pit stop on the way to the Capilano Suspension Bridge, going to or from the popular Salmon Hatchery, and functions as the premiere location for a post-hike dinner after a day on Grouse Mountain. This makes Edgemont a hotbed for tourism and visitation. This lively micro-economy presents a variety of opportunities to the residents of Edgemont. While it is certainly close enough to Vancouver proper for a commute to work, the village does not rely on the downtown as its sole source of employment. The area presents a perfect chance for the budding entrepreneur, small business owner, or someone who works in service or hospitality to continue their trade in a healthy economic environment. The lures of Edgemont will only continue to bring people to it from all over the North Vancouver area, meaning the towns capacity for growth and investment is uniquely large. In terms of employment possibilities, Edgemont once again presents ideal circumstances for those who might wish to make it home.

A Strong Community

Edgemont is the sort of place where everybody knows everybody. It’s a tight-knit community and the people savor that connection. A variety of events are held in the village throughout the year, like the Cruise the Shore fundraiser for Lions Gate Hospital or the annual summer concert series, a family favorite for many in the surrounding area. Collective events are held throughout the town during most major holidays, but there are also more regular activities. Family friendly movie screenings are held by the duck pond in Murdo Fraser Park and a whole host of readings, informational sessions, and discussions are hosted at the Capilano Public Library. More than anything, Edgemont is a family town. In Edgemont and the surrounding area, more homeowners than not are families with children. From Monday to Friday, parents need venture just a 10 minute drive east to reach the celebrated, K-8 Vancouver Waldorf School. Even closer, within Edgemont itself, is Vancouver Waldorf High School. Both schools tout a unique focus on parental involvement, social responsibility, and student independence. Altogether, Edgemont forms a community which is welcoming to all and particularly constructive for family life.
