Location



History

Moodyville was formed as a company town, built around the huge sawmill. The mill began in 1862 at Burrard Inlet. For decades this mill produced a great amount of lumber, propelling the success of the surrounding community. For its time, it was an advanced development. It even was the first community north of San Francisco to get electricity – this led to an immense amount of local pride. It was also known for its vibrant and multicultural population. Many immigrants to the region worked in the sawmill. After it closed in 1901, this neighbourhood became less vibrant. Many of the historic buildings no longer exist, but still, the spirit of the neighbourhood is present.


About this neighbourhood

This neighbourhood was traditionally a working-class hub. Now, it has become home to a variety of young professionals, families, and retirees. From a visual standpoint, this is a popular neighbourhood for its waterfront views. Today, it is primarily a residential neighbourhood – it has recently undergone a lot of change, after being allowed to build denser housing units. This has made the area hopping and popular with many new residents.

This area is likely to increase in popularity as development continues. Real estate properties are selling very quickly – you will want to take action fast if you want to ensure you are able to land your dream home, condo, or apartment here!


Why you would love Moodyville

Moodyville is a centrally located neighbourhood. It is near downtown Vancouver, great for business workers or other commuters – this means you are a short distance from most Vancouver area attractions. It is also a short commute to other North Vancouver neighbourhoods, like Lower Lonsdale.

There are several mountains nearby to provide outdoor entertainment. This neighbourhood also has walkable streets and a residential feel. This might appeal to those that want to live in the city, without the chaos of downtown – or it might also appeal to families that want a quieter place to live compared to the more active parts of Lower Lonsdale. Young professionals may also enjoy the new condos and townhouses and the fact that they are located a short drive to many of the entertainment spots of North Vancouver. There are excellent restaurants, festivals, art galleries, museums, concerts, and shopping all within a fifteen-minute drive of the neighbourhood.


Landmarks

Moodyville, BC is known for its visual landmarks. The first landmark is the water. Known as a port neighbourhood, this area has views of the ocean, downtown Vancouver, and surrounding parts of North Vancouver. Nearby, there are many great places to hike and ski. Residents can enjoy views of snow-covered mountains from their kitchen or bedroom windows. Other landmarks are human-made. A view of the port and Lonsdale Quay, maybe yours depending on the direction you look. You may also see the sight of the original sawmill that is slowly being absorbed into new commercial and residential use.


Outdoors and Recreation

One perk of this neighbourhood is the Moodyville park. This park is known for its stunning views and fall foliage. If you like outdoor sports, you will enjoy it – there are multiple opportunities to run, walk, or hike. It is noted for having good parking and lots of play areas for children. There is also the opportunity for sailing and boating on the water.

A little further away is the Park and Tilford Gardens. These botanical gardens are beautiful, perfect for a summer day. For indoor enthusiasts, there are gyms, yoga studios, and cycling studios within a short drive. Other parks, including Keith Lynn Park, are walkable from the neighbourhood.

For hikers, Grouse Mountain is a popular destination – it has a tram with spectacular views. Numerous other trails abound within 30 minutes drive with everything from Sunday stroll down pristine rivers to true backcountry and backpacking access. Another popular outdoor activity in the area is fishing. Many people fish in the open sea that borders this neighbourhood.


Arts and Entertainment

There are several restaurants on Queensbury Ave. to cater to culinary tastes and more opening all the time. Even more options exist a short drive away in Lower Lonsdale and downtown North Vancouver. Barbeque, vegan, coffee, beer, and sushi, Greek, Asian, German, Italian, seafood and Fusion eating options are all nearby.

There are many walkable streets to window shop and excellent restaurants. There is also a movie theatre a short drive from the Moodyville neighbourhood. Also, you can find many art galleries in the area. This local is frequented by artists and photographers that are inspired by the landscape

Shopping is available at a large center by the river, which includes a Save On grocery store and several restaurants. There are larger malls within driving distance.

If you like museums, there is the Vancouver Harbor Museum. Further out, is the Polygon, a modern artwork. Many people venture out to the Friday night festivities in Lower Lonsdale as well.


Living in this Neighbourhood

One attraction of this neighbourhood is that there is a plethora of new housing. Over two thousand new homes, condos, and townhouses have been built in North Vancouver. Most of the centrally located parts of the city areas do not have the same abundance of newer housing. If you prefer a historic house, many of these are available as well – but remember that due to the high demand, these houses may be expensive.

For families, or those planning to have one, there is the great appeal of excellent schools. There are two elementary schools and a private Christian school. All have great reputations. For higher education, Capilano University is just a short drive away.

If you require medical assistance, there is the Lions Gate hospital within a five-minute drive of the neighbourhood.

For the leisure minded, the local library provides books, movies, and even history lessons on the local neighbourhood.

With endless things to do, a quiet neighbourhood, easy commutes, and near the water, this location is bound to increase in value. Buying or renting in Moodyville, BC is a good choice!
