WESTVIEW VILLAGE



At the north boundary of North Vancouver, the neighbourhood of Westview Village is a peaceful, quiet, and family-oriented place to live. It is great for people with kids and elders, or for those looking for some tranquillity.

Nonetheless, its residents can easily find entertainment, outdoor activities, night events, and even a shopping mall. The dazzling Delbrook Community Recreation Centre itself provides a ton of liveliness.

It is located north of Upper Levels Highway and west of Lonsdale Avenue. Besides North Vancouver city centre, one can simply walk to Delbrooke, North Lonsdale and Capilano Highlands. The District of North Vancouver Municipal Hall is also located here.

The terrain is hilly, but one that grows up here or that lives here for long get used to it – the same way they become habituated to the Canadian winter. As a North Vancouver neighbourhood, Westview Village has ravishing nature and green areas, such as parks and trails.


Location



Why is it good to live?

Westview Village offers plenty of peace and quiet for its population. Even though it is a small community, it grants every basic service one might need and has easy access to the rest of NorthVan in case of an emergency.

There are lovely houses and a couple of garden complexes fitting for families. Kids and elders are well supported here, as well of religious folks – since it has strong Presbyterian and Catholic communities.

On the other hand, teens, young adults and more agitated people are not short-handed on activities. They can find recreation centres, outdoor diversion and nightlife.


Raising a child

Westview has all the safety and tranquillity a parent needs. A kid that grows up here will have easy access to education, freedom to come and go (developing their independence), and close contact to nature.

For children education, there is no need to leave the neighbourhood until their tweens. They can attend institutions such as Garden Bunny Child Care, Little Rascals Pre-School, Larson Elementary and Holy Trinity Elementary.

After that, the adjacent communities offer plenty of options for Secondary Schools and High Schools. They also have good places to study and research such as the North Vancouver City Library and a public library in Capilano.

Plus, if you are taking care of elders, Chartwell Churchill House Retirement Residence has a good reputation and is well-spoken by its residents and their families. The quietness and closeness of the community are ideal for the rest and warmth needs of a senior.


Entertainment

The Westview Shopping Centre stands out as a strip mall. It is a calm place where you can spend a few hours and have some coffee on the brewers located here.

The Delbrook Community Recreation Centre, on Queens Road, is also a cherished place to spend quality time. It is a brand new hub of wellness and recreation, safe for kids and teens to hand out with friends. The facility is 95,000-square-foot and worth $53.5-million, probably the neatest rec centre on the North Shore right now.

There is a gym, a weight room, a swimming pool, courts and a fitness studio for those interested in physical activities. For the more artistic people, it offers a pottery studio and an art studio. There is also a meeting room and a multipurpose facility.


Outdoors

Delbrook Park presents a lot of outside activities with sports fields and also tennis courts. It has a nice playground for the kids. It is a beautiful and well-maintained recreation centre.

At the William Griffin Park one can find the Delbrook Community Recreation Centre, mentioned above and the Griffin Bowl, great for skateboarding, BMX, etc. It is also crossed by the Mosquito Creek Trail – an accessible hitchhiking path.


Night outs

The main pubs on Westview villages are the Two Lions and the Queens Cross.

The first one is named after the Two Lions pointed peaks, located at the North Shore Mountains. It is more agitated on a music night, when it is possible to enjoy some local bands, such as the classic rock dedicated Johnny and The Walkers.

At the very edge of the neighbourhood, the Queens Cross always has a crowd. It also houses music presentations and other kinds of events, such as sports finals. There is a beer pong table available via request.


Restaurants

For a more familiar night out or fancy lunch, Westview Village does not leave you empty-handed.

The Hamaei Japanese Restaurant, for instance, is considered by some as the best sushi in NorthVan. If you are plotting to visit it, it is crucial to make a reservation – it fills up really fast. Asiatic food enthusiasts can also hit Westview Oriental Restaurant, just across the street.

Other than that, you can go down Lonsdale Avenue for more Asiatic and Mediterranean restaurants. Alternatively, Pemberton Heights and Northgate, both close by communities, have lots of great dining establishments.
