The secret is out. North Vancouver is one of the most desirable places to live in the entire Vancouver area, and this reputation is well founded. There isn’t a bad location within the bounds of North Vancouver, and each offers unparalleled access to the natural beauty of British Columbia and the culture and amenities of downtown Vancouver. If you are looking to purchase a house and start a life in this part of the world, and are hoping to strike that perfect balance between city life and nature, look no further than Parkgate Village. Nestled at the southern end of Mount Seymour Provincial Park and only a short commute into town, Parkgate Village offers the perfect blend of everything that makes Vancouver special.
Parkgate Village is located just inland on the peninsula created where the Burrard Inlet and Vancouver Harbor meet the Indian Arm. This natural waterway creates a geographical buffer between urban city life and the quietude of North Vancouver. Within a short drive of Parkgate Village, you can be in the mountains, on the coastline, or in one of Canada’s favourite cities. From a location standpoint, Parkgate Village is hard to beat.
While a small neighbourhood, Parkgate Village is home to all of the amenities needed for a comfortable existence in Vancouver. From local boutique shops, cafes, and restaurants to larger scale stores for your catchall needs, Parkgate Village has you covered. While it is nice to get out and visit surrounding districts or even downtown Vancouver, you can’t beat the convenience of having everything you need right out your front door. The friendly and welcoming atmosphere of this neighbourhood, as well, makes it a very pleasant place to stroll in the sunny summer months.
While all of Vancouver is known for its green space, some neighbourhoods or districts have more than others. Certainly, the further you move from downtown Vancouver the easier it is to enjoy the forests, coastline, mountains, and manicured fields that truly make this a world-class city. If easy access to nature is on your “must have” list as you shop for new homes, look no further than Parkgate Village. There are no less than ten city parks within walking or biking distance of Parkgate Village proper. Between all of them, you have unlimited access to picnic areas, playgrounds for the kids, beautiful shoreline, swimming beaches, boat launches and rentals, playing courts and fields, hiking trails, and a quick and easy way to enjoy the outdoors. Further, if golf is your thing, Parkgate Village has excellent access to a variety of golf courses and country clubs as well. Finally, in terms of access to nature, we would be remiss to not mention the proximity of Mount Seymour Provincial Park – a favourite outdoor escape for many Vancouver locals.
There are few parks in the world as spectacular as Mount Seymour Provincial Park with such close proximity to a major urban center. The thirty-five square kilometres of Mount Seymour are an outdoor enthusiasts dream, with activities for every skill level. From front country trails to backcountry exploration, Mount Seymour has it all.
In the summertime, hiking is the park’s most popular activity. Mount Seymour boasts fourteen different hiking trails all with varying degrees of length and difficulty. In addition to hiking, the park boasts mountain biking and equestrian trails at the lower elevations, whereas the higher reaches of the mountains are reserved for hiking and backpacking.
Within the park, bounds lie numerous mountains including namesake Mount Seymour at 1,449 metres above sea level and the park’s tallest, Mount Bishop, at 1,509 metres above sea level. Along with the high mountains, and hidden amidst old growth temperate rainforest, lie a handful of beautiful clear lakes perfect for a cool swim or relaxing shoreline picnic. Of course, with such pristine habitat, Mount Seymour Provincial Park is also home to a variety of wildlife. In addition to many bird species, summer visitors also have the opportunity to see deer, coyotes, black bears, bobcats, or even mountain lions!
Unlike other parks, Mount Seymour Provincial Park is also a great place to visit in the wintertime. It offers a variety of options to snowshoe, hike, or go sledding or tubing with the kids. Further Mount Seymour Resorts operates four ski lifts with access to 39 marked trails – 18 of which are open to night skiing. With 330 metres of vertical relief, there is plenty of skiing to be done right outside of your new Parkgate Village home.
Like other districts of North Vancouver, Parkgate Village boasts the perfect balance between city life and nature. If you don’t want to fully commit to an immersive urban setting or a rural escape, consider a balance of the two. Neighbourhoods like Parkgate Village truly have it all.
